Joyce’s Basque Dancer paintings seek to reflect the Basque Community’s joyful celebration of their life and culture through
dance. (Basque immigrants have made up a significant portion of Idaho’s population since the early 1900s). The contrasting black, white, and red of the dancer’s costumes provide strong expressive design possibilities. She has also visited the Basque regions of Spain
and France to expand her appreciation of this dynamic culture.
